Job Detail
overview
Our client, The 'Collectif Mauricien Pour Roches Noires' (CMRN) is launching the recruitment of a Project Director to lead a non-profit initiative of unprecedented scale in Mauritius: the creation and long-term management of a 365-hectare private natural park, developed in collaboration with several national major stakeholders.
This senior leadership role represents a unique opportunity to steer a high-impact environmental and social project, with the ambition of becoming a national benchmark in conservation, public access to nature and sustainable development; the latter serving as a laboratory for innovation focused on nature-based solutions to tackle climate risks and environmental degradation.
The Role
Reporting directly to the CMRN Board (or any person formally delegated by it), the Project Director will have overall responsibility for the structuring, leadership and operational delivery of the project, inheriting a governance framework, stakeholder approach methodology and fundraising pipeline structured during the set-up phase by the Collectif's technical partner. The role requires close coordination with a wide range of partners and stakeholders, and a high level of professional integrity, accountability and strategic oversight.
Responsibilities:
Embody the Park vis-à-vis institutions, partners, media and the public and operate the governance bodies.
Execute the long-term financing strategy, diversify revenue through low-impact ecotourism, research partnerships and results-based payments.
Recruit and lead the Park's operational team, deliver annual operating plans and budgets; ensure financial and narrative reporting to the Board and to funders, supervise external providers (scientific, communications, experts))
Implement the Park's conservation strategy in line with Board decisions, oversee biodiversity monitoring, wetland and mangrove management, fire and encroachment risk, and ecosystem service baselines.
Maintain active and structured relations with the Roches Noires village, village Council, neighbouring landowners, ministries, NGOs and academic institutions, lead community programmes (employment, education, low-impact sustainable tourism).
Working closely with CMRN's communications partner, represent the Park in public forums, oversee media relations and protect its institutional reputation.
