Our client in the construction sector is seeking to recruit for the position of Head of Human Resources who will report to the CEO. The incumbent is a key member of the executive team, responsible for developing and leading the company’s HR strategy for the business growth, particularly in the construction sector. The role ensures best-in-class people practices across recruitment, performance, compliance, training, and organisational culture.

Responsibilities:

HR Strategy & Workforce Planning:
Define and execute an HR roadmap aligned with the company’s vision and values.
Anticipate and plan workforce needs according to project timelines and scaling requirements.
Ensure organisational design and HR operations are robust, agile, and value-driven.

Talent Acquisition & Retention:
Lead end-to-end recruitment for operational, technical, and administrative roles.
Oversee smooth onboarding and employee integration processes.
Design and implement effective retention strategies, particularly for critical roles.

Employee Relations & Legal Compliance:
Ensure compliance with employment legislation and regulatory standards.
Manage trade union engagement, collective agreements, and employee representation.
Handle grievance processes, disciplinary actions, and workplace conflict resolution.

Performance & Learning Development:
Drive performance management processes aligned with strategic goals.
Identify development needs and implement internal and external training plans.
Maximise use of HRDC (Human Resource Development Council) training grants, ensuring timely applications, refunds, and reporting.
Develop leadership programmes and succession plans for key positions.

Compensation, Benefits & HR Administration:
Oversee payroll and benefits administration with compliance and accuracy.
Manage compensation frameworks, incentive schemes, and recognition initiatives.
Ensure data accuracy, reporting, and delivery of HR analytics and KPIs.

Employee Wellbeing, Safety & Culture:
Partner with HSE teams to maintain a safe and healthy workplace.
Promote employee wellbeing through targeted programmes and engagement activities.
Reinforce a fair, inclusive, and values-based organisational culture.

what you need to know

Profile:

Master’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Organisational Psychology, or a related field.
Minimum 15 years of progressive HR experience across multiple HR disciplines.
At least 8 years in a Head of HR or equivalent senior HR leadership role, preferably in the construction, engineering, or industrial sector.
Demonstrated experience managing HRDC-related training initiatives and working within performance-based, project-driven environments.
Strong executive presence and ability to lead HR functions strategically.
Skilled in mediation, dispute resolution, and maintaining industrial harmony.
Deep understanding of employment law, collective agreements, and industry compliance.
Clear and persuasive communication with all internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to align HR strategy with business growth and market conditions.
Strong multi-project coordination, structure, and follow-through.
Resilience and agility in fast-paced, project-based environments.
Expertise in skills development, coaching, and succession strategy.
Familiarity with site safety standards and legal safety obligations.
Proficient with HRIS systems, analytics tools, and modern HR platforms.
