Our client is seeking to recruit for the post of Head of Operations who will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operational management of the company. The objective of the role is to ensure that logistics, stock management, sales coordination, and administrative processes run efficiently while supporting the company's continued growth.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide overall operational leadership for the company Import - Export in Burundi, ensuring day-to-day execution aligns with company objectives, service standards, and growth plans.
Lead end-to-end supply chain operations, including procurement coordination, import planning, inland transportation, last-mile distribution, and delivery performance.
Oversee import/export execution and trade compliance, ensuring accurate documentation, timely customs clearance, and adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and internal controls.
Manage warehousing operations, including storage layout, receiving, picking, dispatch, stock accuracy, cycle counts, and loss-prevention practices.
Establish and maintain robust inventory controls (minimum/maximum levels, reorder triggers, ageing/expiry controls where applicable) and ensure availability of fast-moving and strategic items.
Partner with Sales to drive effective order management and customer fulfillment, ensuring accurate order capture, on-time delivery, and professional resolution of customer issues and claims.
Coordinate with Finance/Accounting on invoicing readiness, collections follow-up, supplier payments, and cost control; ensure operational transactions are properly supported and filed.
Maintain and improve standard operating procedures (SOPs) across logistics, warehouse, and administrative workflows; identify bottlenecks and implement continuous-improvement initiatives.
Manage operational risk, including supplier/transport disruptions, damages, stock variances, compliance gaps, and health and safety; escalate material issues and propose mitigations.
Lead, coach, and supervise operational staff (warehouse, drivers, logistics support, and back-office operations), including onboarding, performance follow-up, and scheduling.
Track, analyze, and report operational KPIs (e.g., order cycle time, on-time-in-full delivery, stock accuracy, shrinkage, demurrage/detention, logistics cost), providing regular updates and recommendations to management.

what you need to know

Candidate Profile:

5 to 10 years of experience in operations, logistics, or supply chain management.
Experience in import/export, distribution, or FMCG sectors preferred.
Strong FMCG distribution experience with proven operational leadership.
Experience managing warehouse, stock, and sales teams within emerging or developing markets.
Strong financial acumen, structured mindset, and leadership presence required.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to manage operational processes independently.
Fluent in French and English.
Adaptable and responsive to market dynamics.

The position will be based in Bujumbura, Burundi.
