Our client is seeking to recruit a Regulatory Lawyer who will report to the General Manager and will be accontable for regulatory legal advice. The incumbent will provide legal support and undertake the company's case management function for prosecutions of breaches of the rules of racing and providing legal / compliance assistance in relation to ongoing projects within the organization. The role includes advisory work and the drafting of rules and regulations and contracts.
Responsibilities:
Implement and work within the Rules of Racing, compliance/ operations manuals and directions under the GRA Act.
Draft and vet of agreements relating to the company activities, and other legal documents such as internal policies, processes and guidelines, advising on employment matters and providing legal support for the handling and management of disputes, investigations and litigation.
Provide timely, clear and practical advice and solutions that enable the company to achieve its objectives while mitigating legal risk and considering the interests of all stakeholders.
Monitor legal and regulatory developments in relation to the operations of the Club, analyse legal implications.
Manage engagement of counsel to ensure that high quality, efficient and cost effective external legal service is obtained.
Advise stakeholders on the Rules of Racing.
Act as a liaison between the company and external third parties (law enforcement, regulatory bodies, advisors and service providers).
Case manage and remain a key point of contact for prosecutions brought under the Rules of Racing.
Continuously develop working knowledge of the Rules of Racing, legal and regulatory framework and assist with drafting necessary amendments to Rules of Racing, or compliance/ operations manuals.
what you need to know
Profile:
A degree in Law or an equivalent qualification.
Admission to the Bar would be an advantage.
At least 5 to 10 years of legal practise.
Understanding of the legal and regulatory framework.
Case management and a solid technical legal skills including legal drafting and research, ideally in a regulatory setting.
Experience in dealing with cases of a sensitive nature.
Keen interest in sporl and sports regulation, preferably with a strong interest in horseracing industry or other equine sports.
Proactive, and able to manage a large caseload with competing deadlines.
Excellent communication skills are key, as well as strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Possess the ability to provide practical advice and solutions with sensitivity.
